Siphonic closets feature a long, narrow 'S' shaped trapway, with one end connecting to the bowl inlet and the other to the drain pipe beneath. These closets offer a larger water area and a deeper seal compared to standard wash-down types.
The unique design of the trapway creates a siphon effect, enhancing flushing performance. At Torus Sanitaryware, we manufacture siphonic closets using high-grade raw materials, ensuring silent and efficient operation with sophisticated technology.
When you pull the lever or push the flush button, the flush valve opens, allowing tank water to flow into the bowl. In siphonic closets, you’ll typically see water rise in the bowl before rapidly sinking into the bowl outlet. This occurs because water flows out of the tank quickly and tries to exit the bowl immediately due to the large flush valve diameter compared to the trapway.
As water exits through the trapway, it displaces the air inside, forming a vacuum. When the water flows over the kink in the trapway, the siphon effect begins, causing the water level in the bowl to stop rising and start decreasing.
At the end of the flush, you’ll hear a gurgling sound, indicating that the vacuum is broken and the siphon stops. The bowl is then refilled with water, and the tank begins to refill for the next flush.
This is the basic operation of a siphonic closet.
